Think it's that time in
One's life now...
when one wonders
at every cycle
whether it could be
the Last.

Different people
suffer menopause
Differently...

But we were always told
Our mood swings
get darn ... well
swinging! haha

So be warned girls,
Your mood swings could include...
Itchy, Bitchy, Sweaty,
Sleepy Bloaty, Forgetful & Psycho...

I spent my Valentine's Day
In a rather unusual way.

It was hoped that i could spend
Another quiet evening with my bambino
Enjoying her company while I can
Before she too, like her sister
Has events booked,
To the hilt.

But early afternoon a call came
and asked if I would like to go
to a concert!
A Frances Yip concert no less
The Dame of Shanghai Beach
A song I took as one of my repertoire

So I discussed with Bambino
Who although lamented a lone evening
Nonetheless encouraged me to go
as she knew how much I would enjoy the show.

So there I was
Dressed for the occasion
Sitting right in front of the songstress
Quite a few rows away
(Try about 100 rows behind.. haha)
Totally mesmerised by
the rendition of the golden oldies
I knew so well...

Oh! what a night!
from Believe me, to Thank you for the music
and Memories and of course
Shanghai Beach...

I can die now....

MRT Incidence No. 2

Late night
Packed carriages
A few of us got onto the train
Homeward bound

Tired from work
Tired from shopping
All seats were taken up

Then I saw this lady
Her clothings could not cover
her bulging tummy.

She stood in front of a sitting passenger
who was yakking with her friend
both looked at the pregnant woman
briefly
during the commas of their
Ddiahorrectic conversation

She was sitting on one of those
'for those needier passengers' seats
with a big sign above her
and opposite her

Reminding passengers to
give up these special seats
for pregnant, weak heavily laden
passengers.

She looked at the pregnant woman
again...
and continued to talk, without
taking her eyes off the pregnant woman.

I said out loud
to the standing passenger
"OH!! You are pregnant?"
like Hint HINT!!!!

She nodded.
The 2 gossipers
Kept talking to each other
A man grudgingly
Gave up his seat -
Must be my LOUD exclamation!

The pregnant woman's husband
Leaned over to speak with me
about courtesy in Singapore...

Like, hello, what courtesy?
Singapore really has a
long way to go.

We have cars jumping the lights
Jumping even the zebra crossing
So they move on first
even as you proceed to use the
zebra crossing..
Like people pushing past you
to get onto the bus.

Courtesy?
This country?
Blah!!

I've seen more
courtesy and graciousness
in a 5 yr old american girl
than in the whole neighbourhood.

I was writing down
25 'random' things on facebook
when I included some of the
things that irritate me.

Not all 25 items are
about irritations mind you
But I did include
Erratic children
Running around with
No regard to other people
Or safety

Case in point

MRT Incidence No. 1

Mother and son entered MRT
yesterday - Monday 2 Feb
Fairly empty train
Lots of seats

Did the son sit down
Next to the mother?
No

Did the son stand up
To play with the hanging handles?
No

The son, all of his 5? 6? 7 yrs old
Decided to be a cross-country
Choo choo train / BMX bicycle /
Free fall parachute.

He ran up and down the carriage
Jumped up to touch the hanging handles
Swung around the pole
Like a very bad pole dancer

Then flung himself at his mother
Spreading himself across 2 - 3 seats....

All this while, he had body-slammed
into passengers walking into the train,
Passengers trying to walk out of the train
even passengers staying still trying to not
Knock into him...

His mother - on the other hand -
Deserved a medal for her composure
Her oblivion to the world
Outside of her mobile phone
As she sms relentlessly
Begging to be taken away from reality
& Taken away she was

Far from the behaviour of her son
Far away from the dagger glares
She and her son received
in equal proportion
from fellow passengers.

Couple of stations down
One young sweet-looking girl
Entered the carriage..

She played dodge ball &
Obstacle course
in order to get to a seat
a slight distance away from
the hyper-active boy -
She sat opposite me.

From the way
she narrowed her eyes slightly
Throwing glances
at the duo's direction
We obviously shared similar
sentiments..

I looked down
trying not to encourage
her look of disdain

Suddenly a male voice
broke the monotony of
travelling -
"Excuse me boy"

We both looked up
The man who firmly
spoke to the boy
was none other than
one of the MRT staff / driver
He asked the boy to move

But it didn't end there!

He proceeded to lecture
the boy about running around
and swinging from poles
that he should sit with his mother
As his actions would cause
injury to himself
and other passengers

He spoke politely
softly but his eyes were firm...

I looked up and saw
the young girl looking at me
We were both smiling
I even uttered
"Serve him right!"

By now, a few more
passengers were smiling
We... were having
the biggest cheshire cat grin!

The mother briefly
tore her eyes away from the phone
to pull her son close.
who by then was sitting still
beside her... without a sound..

Thank God!
Intolerance of bad manners
& poor social behaviours
still exist in this society
I was about to give up hope.

Alas! my stop was due
I couldn't see if
the boy could behave
for more than 2 stops.

The young girl glanced me
a good bye smile

kindred spirit of sorts...
