Had a really unusual encounter the other day. Was on the MRT, Minding my own business.
These not-really-that-young children (secondary, or upper primary at least) Were pushing, hitting each other Shuffing, even slapping their mom In a crowded train... during the rush hour home.
So, yes, they finally pushed into me... Didn't step on me, but verge of I looked up and said "This is not a playground"
Oops... did I know what was coming! The children moved off to the other side The mother soon asked after me, in Mandarin Wondering if the child had stepped on me or kicked me...
I said no, but they did push into me... Then... She launched into an attack
She shouted at me... saying that I 'bullied' her children Asked if her children were allowed to move, and that, If they did not hurt me Why did I scold them that I was "qi guai" - Strange in mandarin
That if I could not cope with being in the same compartment with other people I should take a cab.
The hurricane of accusations and shouting totally took me by surprise I looked at her Looked at the crowded train where other passengers were avoiding Getting pushed and shuffed by their inconsiderate playfulness... well... what can i say? I couldn't get a word edgeways?!
So I smiled and shook my head That ticked her off even more and her verbal abuse continued, Accusing me of 'picking on her children'...
So I looked up to her... and said to her, in Mandarin, "With you kind of mother you deserve to have that kind of children."
With that, I returned to my book and continued reading... She carried on grumbling for all to hear but no on to listen....
I am stunned and shocked By the total lack of Social graces.... No, not even that Social etiquette some people can exhibit
Am I asking too much? It was a crowded train during rush hour There was scarcely Space to stand, Let alone space to exhibit martial art skills!
Please people! Wake up! Please parents! Teach your children Socially acceptable behaviour In public places Before they ended up Pushing into some Ruffians and ended up in a real fight!
